Prepping For the Project

Exterior Prep

The first step in preparing the exterior of a home for painting is detailed cleaning. The structure should be pressure-washed to remove all the dirt, mildew, and even peeling paint. After pressure-washing, the wall will need to be thoroughly inspected for areas of uneven surfaces or flaking paint, and rough for uneven edges will need to be sanded down. Then, fill in all cracks with caulk or any other appropriate filling. After a final inspection, prime the surface with a quality primer. Good primers will ensure long lasting, vibrant paint jobs.

Interior Prep

For interior painting jobs the process begins with covering all areas you don’t want to paint, such as furniture, the floor, and other interior accessories, with drop clothes. Then, begin cleaning the walls and looking for areas where the paint is starting to peel or flake. Apply painter’s tape to the trim and edges of the walls and ceiling, and repair rough edges. Fill in any cracks or holes using quality caulk. Then prime the walls.

Painting

For interior surfaces, the process of painting the walls or ceilings is fairly straight-forward. After taping off the trim, laying drop clothes, and covering other areas that you want to remain unaffected, start painting. Whether you are using a brush or a roller, start with the edges of the wall and work towards the larger areas.

Painting exterior surfaces is a bit more involved. Be sure to select paints that are weather resistant. Our painters know the hot and humid climate of Georgia, and we select paints that perform best in this kind of climate. Acrylic latex paints or UV-resistant paint are two reliable options for exterior finishes. Lastly, always work from the top down to prevent drips, and be sure to check for uniformity throughout the project.
