Our Wooden Door Refinishing Process
Firstly, please note that we may or may not need to remove the door from the frame to refurbish it. Sometimes we are able to add a new stain or finish (or repair minor issues) with the door still on its hinges. But sometimes we will need to remove the door entirely so we can refinish it to perfection. We’ll let you know so that we can schedule the project accordingly. These projects usually only take a day or two, depending on how much repair or how many layers of stain need to dry.
We will assess the door for chips, cracks, gauges, or places where it no longer fits perfectly, among other issues. We will start by addressing any rotten wood or filing if necessary.
We then remove hinges, knobs and other hardware (when required). This is followed by a thorough sanding and cleaning (with appropriate solution) to leave the wood smooth and perfectly clean. We want to remove all vestiges of its previous stain, varnish, paint, or any imperfections.
If you have oak, mahogany, or another type of wooden door that needs staining, we can then work with you to identify the perfect stain that will enhance the grain of the wood. We will use as many coats of high-end stain as necessary. We then seal it up with UV protecting sealant, varnish, and bring it to perfection.
